Medications At School |
If
your children need to receive medications at school you must complete a
Medication Authorization Form and provide the
medication in its original container. Prescription medication must be in the prescription container with the appropriate dosage and this must match
the authorization form-no exceptions. No student is to carry medication on
campus unless previously authorized in advance for an urgent medical condition. |
Jeans Days
The following dates are set aside as Jeans’ Days
Each Jeans’ Day the Library Media Center will collect $1.00 from students enjoying this privilege. The money will be used to purchase additional library resources for our students.
Students may wear jeans or jeans shorts (not merely “dress down” attire) and one of the uniform shirts. All grade levels may wear CDS t-shirts (sold by Athletic or Band Booster club), violin t-shirts, or school athletic team shirts. High School students may wear a dress-code-policy-approved shirt. Any clothing other than this will be considered a uniform violation. |

Are You Approved to Drive for CDS? |
Please click here for the required form to sign. Once a parent is approved to drive
for the school, it is effective for two years from the approval date.
Please complete this form early - it helps our teachers! |

NEW IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS |
Parents, please note that North Carolina has changed the rules regarding vaccination of school-aged children. All private schoolstudents who are 12 years of age on or after August 1, 2008, if five years or more have passed since the last dose oftetanus/diphtheria toxoid, are required to have a booster dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, andacellular pertussis) vaccine before starting school this fall. This administrative rule change also impacts mumps vaccinations.
Students starting Kindergarten this fall are now required to receive a second dose of mumps vaccine before enrolling in school for the first time. The vaccines will be provided at no charge; however, the physician may charge a small fee to administer it. Please turn in a copy of the Certificate of Immunization showing these changes to the school offices on or before the August 19, 2008, the first day of school. |
ROOM MOTHERS |
WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE A ROOM MOTHER NEXT YEAR? We are in the process of preparing for next school year and would like to know if you would consider being a room mother.
If you are interested, please respond to Sue Todd at sunsetnc@bellsouth.net or leave a note in the Room Mother’s box in the LS office. Please include your name, phone number, grade(s) of your child(ren) for next year, and whether you would like to be a Room Mother or Assistant Room Mother.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to become involved in your child’s class.

CDS Ambassadors (formerly Host Families)
Help welcome a new family to CDS! |
Think back to your first year at CDS… Do you remember all of those questions you had and didn't know who to ask? You can help by becoming an ambassador to a new family at CDS.
We are looking for people who have the gift of hospitality and would be willing to:
- Be matched with one or two new CDS families.
- Meet with your new families during the summer for dinner or dessert (at a restaurant, in your home, at a park, be creative!). Welcome them and help answer any questions they may have.
- Schedule a “play date” (at the pool, at a park, at your home, it’s up to you!) for your new students and a couple of other students in their grade.
- Attend the new family social with your new CDS family the week before school starts.
- Follow up with your new CDS family during the year with a periodic phone call. Sign Up Today>>

Children are to
be supervised on the playground just after school before MS pick up.
Some
students have been throwing small candies, etc. at other children.
Please help us with this potentially dangerous play. Thank you |
 |
We
would like all carpool pick-ups to flow safely. Here are some reminders
which help during that crucial time of child movement.
- Please refrain
from using the cell phone during the actual pick up and drop off.
Your child will love your warm greeting when they get in the car.
- Adults opening
car doors do not have to open any cars that have dogs in them. If
you choose to bring your dog in the car at carpool time, please
contain them in such a way that they cannot have contact with the
adult opening the car door.
- No child should
walk between cars to get to the parking area. All children need to
be with an adult, supervised at all time.
If
Sharing a Ride (lower school)
If you
plan on having your student ride home with someone else, please send a note that
morning. Please make sure this has been agreed on by the other parent
taking them home.

Late Pickup / After School
Teachers joyfully supervise your Lower School and Middle School children throughout the school day. The first 15minutes after students are dismissed from school while they are atcarpool there is no charge. If you fail to pick up your child within 15 minutes of school dismissal, your children will be supervised in After School Care in B building (B-124) until they are picked up. Once they have gone to After School Care there is a late fee. As a courtesy the first late pickup fee is waived.
Also children
that have a cancelled music lesson or tutoring, will be brought to After
School Care, where they will be able to call a parent and let them know
their class is cancelled.
Please come to pick up your child(ren) with payment ready. For their own safety, children are not allowed to be unattended on the school grounds.
If you know that you will be late to pick up your children, please contact the Office or Carmen Welty.
This call does not relieve you from the obligation to pay for the ASEP visit; it allows the staff of ASEP to prepare for your child. Children must be signed out to be released from late pick up.
Any late fee not paid at the time of pick up will receive a letter requesting payment from the business office. We will only accept checks for payment. Thank you for understanding that the safety of your children is very important to us!
Parents
must come in and sign their child out, (for their child’s safety). ---Carmen
